Porn Stars Started #PayForYourPorn Campaign

Porn stars launched a special campaign to encourage the viewers to pay for porn instead of pirating the adult movies online. The #PayForYourPorn campaign is backed by publishers Adult Empire, who claim that piracy hurts the industry. So, if porn fans fail to take responsibility for piracy, the industry may become unsustainable.

If you buy content, you can be sure that it is better produced, delivered in higher quality formats, more secure, and ¬– most importantly – fosters the creation of new content. On the other hand, porn piracy delivers content for free but hurts everyone, from the moviemakers to the porn stars.
The move was taken when the actor Samuel L Jackson sparked outrage among adult performers by saying that the well-known porn sharing website RedTube was one of the best pop culture achievements of the past 5 decades. In return, the porn star Catalina Cruz called for a boycott of his movies. One of the actors launching the campaign is an adult performer and sex educator Jessica Drake, who also emphasized the very real effects of piracy on the movie industry and the economy. She called piracy a very serious criminal activity and a violation of personal consent and ethics.
Adult Empire representatives argue that porn industry is in a trickier position than others. The problem is that porn still has a stigma attached to it, so the industry realizes that it won’t ever receive help or support from legislatures. This is the reason why the actors decided to rally together the campaign on their own.
However, some streaming services of YouTube style, which have user uploads and free streaming, are trying to build their own sustainable business model. For example, Porn.com claim they are 100% behind the campaign, and argue that their pay-per-view scheme helps to keep lots of content owners in business, and the service pays a part of the ad revenue to studios which upload their own videos to the service.
Porn.com also points out that just as the content industries were forced to change their approach in the face of piracy, becoming more user-friendly to win back people who were used to getting what they wanted free of charge, the porn industry also needs to change. Perhaps, adult industry will need to adopt "Netflix" pricing of $7-$10 monthly, not $40 that it normally charges now. Porn.com switched to this pricing a while ago and remains one of the few companies still enjoying success.
