who is the greatest ever rock/metal singer

Newbie
it is my considered opinion that the greatest rock/metal/whatever other pigeon hole he will fit into singer and entertainer, by virtue of longivity and sheer brilliance at turning the odd tune into a classic is none othere that Mr JOHN (OZZY) OSBOURNE.
and i wont take no for an answer

I do really like ozzy, but you cannot take away from Mr Dickinson from iron maiden, ronny james Dio also, who is the better, i think we will just have to let them fight it out.lol

spoilt prima donna, axl rose. but in his day, i really liked appetite for destruction

ozzy/dio/dickinson

i tend to agree on certain parts of your post. yes, dickinson, i have always said was one of the best singer/entertainers never to play in Black Sabbath, and i particularly liked his solo stuff which ive not listened to for quite a while i would have it on the mp3 player whenever i was out and about. and yes Dio i have always thought had one of the perfect voices for his type of music no matter who he was singing with (sadly Missed)
however........... if a person is regarded as famous or well know he would have impressions done of him by impressionists (obviously) and unfortunately ive not seen any done of the aforementioned dio and dickinson.
i just feel that for overall endurance and perseverance and the fact that i have seen him quite a few times live i think he just tops the poll

Yes, but metal is a niche market and i wouldn't like to think that someone is better than another because they have a copycat. In fact the reason that i didn't enjoy benidorms singers is that they all tried to imitate someone else, they were good singers in their own right.
Can't take away from ozzy though, he has lasted and i particularly like paranoid

well i think your all wrong if your after the total rock band lead vocal is has to be CHRIS CORNELL of soundgarden and audioslave. If anybody ever wanted to sing in a band, you'd want his voice......class.....end of.

The unfortunate thing about Mr. Cornell is he's more of a studio voice. I was very disappointed to see what he sounds like live. He goes flat, often, and cannot hit the range of notes he is typically known for on the discs. Very disappointing despite the fact that i enjoy both bands.

Hard to nail down an overall top choice for best. My faves are all mentioned here though. Dio and Dickinson are prolific singers. I'm fairly surprised no one has mentioned Rob Halford from Judas Priest yet. I enjoy his vocals as well.

Children ,children, the greatest singer of rock/metal/WHATEVER/ is undoubtedly the incomparable Mr. Frankie Miller.Listen and learn!

Only one winner : Bon Scott

Present day I'd have to say Corey Taylor simply for his range of vocals. Not to everyones taste obviously but the varied styles of sings he's done from Slipknot to Stone Sour is brilliant. Such a cool front man too who gives a lot of heart in live performances.

All good suggestions in this thread but Corey IMO.

Not as good of quality as it live, but at least it isn't blocked by the infernal vevo crap.
