Police have launched an investigation after a 107-year-old woman and her daughter were found dead at their home in Wales.

The bodies of the two women, from Builth Wells, were found on Monday morning.

A Dyfed Powys police spokeswoman said their deaths were "sudden".

She said: "Post-mortems have taken place and inquiries are continuing."

The two have been named locally as centenarian Barbara Innes and 69-year-old Griselda Folkard.

Eye-witnesses reported seeing ambulances arrive at the women's home in the centre of Builth Wells at about 10am on Monday.

Officers carried out door-to-door inquiries and conducted early forensic tests.

Detectives are keeping an open mind as to the circumstances of their deaths, though police have ruled out any third party involvement and were not looking for anyone in connection with the deaths.

"They are not believed to be caused by carbon monoxide poisoning," the spokeswoman said.

One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said the two women were very close.

"Her mother's ill-health has often worried Griselda. She often has said she would not know how to cope when her mother passed away.

"The pair were very close. It's such a tragic thing to happen."
