Woman's body found in holdall bag

Gardaí are investigating the discovery of a body of a woman's body in large holdall bag in Dublin this morning.

The body was found by a passerby on Blackhorse Avenue at around 8.30am.


A person out walking came across a large holdall bag with wheels and a handle near St David's Terrace and when they examined it they found the body of a woman inside.


The area has been sealed off as a crime scene and the State Pathologist has been called in.


The woman has not been identified. Gardaí do not know if she was Irish or a foreign national and have not determined her age.


The body remains at the scene pending a preliminary examination.


Gardai are carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Gardaí in Dublin have identified the woman found in a travel bag in Dublin this morning as a student from the African country Malawi.


The victim was in her twenties and had been in the country for the last two years
A post mortem conducted on Sunday night showed she died from asphyxiation.


The victim will not be officially named until her relatives have been informed.


Earlier, gardaí appealed for information after the discovery of the body in large holdall bag in Dublin.

A murder investigation has been launched.


The deputy State Pathologist attended the scene and a post mortem was carried out at the City Morgue.


Gardaí believe that the luggage bag was placed on the street at some stage yesterday afternoon or evening prior to 7.00pm
