Zgemma H2S telnet or FTP

Hi. I'm trying to telnet to the Zgemma H2S OpenATV with windows. I'm using port 21 which seems to connect as an FTP. Only the FTP commands will work. I wish to use Linux commands. Am i using the wrong port ?

yes try using port 23.

Why are you using telnet may i ask? is it to transfer a file and install it?

I am trying to change the root password. I have spent the last 5 hours trying to run "passwd" on the box using telnet on port 21. I have found out that this is the FTP port... i have to use port 23 for a telnet connection.. I'm new to this but i do understand that having open ports is a big security risk. I have now changed the root password but i would be safer if i had a firewall.

I remember researching all this a couple months back.
use putty to change the password.
also the vsftpd.conf located in the etc folder has something to do with it. I regret not making notes on it.
