    Updating Your Roaming Capabilities.

    It's a good idea to periodically update the roaming coverage on your Verizion Wireless phone.

    This is a simple procedure that typically takes less than 3 minutes to complete, depending on signal strength.

    Dial *228 Then hit send. When a voice begins to speak, hit option #2. The phone will handle the update, programming, then typically (based on model) will restart itself.

    There, you're done! Piece of cake.

    In short Homesick, it scans for any new or newly accessible towers/signals thus broadening your coverage area.

    Here's what the official website has to say about it:

    Verizon Wireless is constantly advancing its roaming technology to provide you with superior roaming capabilities. By updating your PRL every few weeks, you can be sure you have access to our enhancements. As a result you may experience:

    * Longer battery life
    * Fewer dropped or blocked calls
    * Clear, crisp connections in more areas across the United States
    * Ability to connect to the digital network in more parts of the country
