A little more information would certainly assist us in helping. What kind of computer are we talking about?

Are you referring to a flashdrive?

Are you trying to format it?

    Etc.....

edit: renamed thread title to something a little more descriptive

i presume you are running xp?
Open a command window by going to Start, then Run and typing in CMD.
Now type in the following command at the prompt: format /FS:FAT32 E:.............( i am presuming E will be the external HD,or possibly f )
it should look something like this

Windows will go ahead and begin formatting the drive in FAT32!
let the programme run until it is finished, shouldn`t take too long.
let us know how you get on..

go to start, see where the little box is under all programmes? type "run" in here, this will bring up a little "run"icon, click this, then type in CMD,a window will pop up with a black background, type in what i posted above after the blinking cursor and you should be good to go.
