why we spending millions on Boris sending a letter out to households, that money should be getting spent on masks, and PPE for the NHS front line....any one explain that to me?

Because he is a stupid moron and the rest of his cronies.

Money as you should be better spent on PPE equipment for the NHS front line workers but vast majority of such workers have to wait till mid April.

Joke absolute joke. How anyone believes this government has done good job managing the virus.

agreed, Just seen an article, and when you look at what there wearing compared to what they should be using, it's a disgrace, hearing many horror stories of "front line staff" with nothing but paper masks, GOV claiming they doing miracles. I think there's something like 3.4 million NHS and care workes....sending a bloody letter out.!

Instead of sending everyone a letter plough that cash into getting these people the correct PPE.

Disgrace....

That’s exactly the sort of photos my mum has sent.

What’s in the media is a load of rubbish.

Huge respect to your mum mate.....mortified. She's saving peoples lives, it's like sending the fire brigade into a building with shorts and a t-shirt! it would and should not have ever happened!

Media is the governments puppet.

So whatever is fed to them they will report even if its a pack of lies.

No NHS worker is protected. Give them cheap protective equipment doesnt cover that.

Update from Spain

**Spanish authorities said on Sunday 838 people had died from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the country’s death toll to 6,528, with 78,797 confirmed cases. All non-essential workers are being ordered to stay at home for two weeks from Monday. **.....TILL 11/4/20

It's a lot worse here than in UK according to all the news reports.
Supermarket only one person allowed in a car to go shopping (no exceptions)
You can supposedly go to the doctors/chemists/hospital but only if urgent and according to news sites then nothing is urgent as far as treatment goes !
Cars are being stopped and turned back if 2 people (after the fine has been levied of course) are in the car.
30 minutes to walk your dog and if no dog then tough !
One group of seven people all fined for walking the same dog !
Local traffic channel run by 3 guardia police posting updates for drivers and their colleagues waiting down the road to stop drivers and fine them.
Guardia parking in supermarket car parks and fining any cars with 2 people .
Medical emergency telephone numbers just state stay at home and don't go to health centres.
Lucky where i am as not many cases so i dread to think of problem areas like Madrid.
All cafes/food/DIY are closed but the Tabacs are open !
Mainly, the Expats are complying with all the restrictions and the panic buying has eased off but with a lot of older generation people here, it's difficult to know what the true damage is.
Not really sure where the best place to be is at present as even the bloody sun has deserted us for the past 10 days as well.

is the ppe issue even down to funding?

i can only imagine it's a massive supply side issue.

the letters are a way of reducing demand on the NHS and limiting the no of covid cases which lowers the need for PPE.

it's not either or

@benijofar really sad whats happening in Spain just like Italy. Death toll keeps rising.

Would you say your government was slow to act on the virus like in Italy?

Could see similar measures here in UK if death toll gets severely worse

My company seem to be getting visors fine so why the nhs can’t I have no idea.

It’s got to the point where I’m supplying ppe to my mam to keep her safe because the nhs isn’t.

TBH mate if money aint coming from the government to supply PPE then I wouldnt put the whole blame on NHS.

The Govt reacted quite quickly but the damage had been done in a very short period of time between the severity becoming clear and all the fekkin idiots in Madrid ignoring the stay apart guidelines and carrying on with their normal way of life.
It's very much a group type culture here so socialising is always top of the agenda.
Madrid totally ignored the stay apart guidelines and carried on regardless.
The Spanish Govt always keen for investment give very good tax breaks to the Chinese so there is an abundance of the Chinese Bazaars full of their cheap junk and loads of employees living on the premises. Personally, i believe like every other year, there were thousands of these going back to China and swapping with the next group.
Assuming the virus was already in play, then this new group would have been bringing it back to Spain to start it's journey.
Had they shut everything down straight away then it may not have been as bad but it's all guesswork as nobody will ever know the rate of passing it on.
I do think the UK got it wrong by allowing exercise as this encouraged people to not take it as seriously as it needed to be.

We are told in the UK that warmer weather helps kill the covid virus yet Spain has a warmer climate than ours but is affected more
Any thoughts

Yes they are.

Sterile makes me laugh as well, if you seen how sterile the equipment is they are using now.

my missus works in nhs theater.

there is no story about the nhs that would shock me.

it's not fit for purpose and why we hold it up as this ideal model that is sacred and only needs more cash is beyond me.

The virus is passed via droplets.
Droplets hang around longer in cold weather than hot weather, Eg on glass and metal it will dry up quicker.
Theirs is worse than ours because they've had it longer, ours will soon catch up, regardless of the weather.
We can only assume most cases are through person to person contact rather than fomite transmission
