Hi.

So I have a denon av receiver, an android box and an LG 4k TV.

My issue is I get no picture at all when connecting my android box through the 4k input on my av receiver. If I plug the android box directly into the 4k input on my TV I can set the resolution to 4k and I get a picture. Could this be that the hdmi cables are not version 2.0.

I hope somone can help as I've been pulling my hair out for ages over this issue.

Many tha ks in advance.

There is no need yo start 3 identical threads, one will suffice.
Other 2 deleted, be careful in future please

Possibly your denon is using pre 4K specs like 1920 x 1080 on old machines.I have an onkyo old model.I have a zgemma h7s 4K and is plugged into 4K tv and use spdif into amp.

Hi pal. Its only 2 years old. I do get a picture ocationaly, although it's on and off. That's what makes me think its a hdmi cable issue.

I had a similar issue with my Shield TV and LG Oled running through a Yamaha receiver. As you said i would check the specs of your HDMI and upgrade. Also worth checking whether your android box is outputting 4k @ 60Hz as some receivers can only passthrough 4k @ 30Hz (specs online or manual). If you can change that setting and see if it works that should eliminate that point.

Hi yeah if I plug the android box direct into the TV the android box can output 4k@60hz.its only when running through the av I get issues.the av unit is also capable of outputting 4k@60hz. If I swap HD leads and turn the box on and off a few times I can get a picture for a short amount of time but then just goes off. Would upgrading the hdmi leads make any difference do u think

I don't think its anything do with HDMI cables mate. They will either work or not. So if they are working for 1080 or 720 or showing an output at all then they are working. You need to set both your box an TV to both have 4k as the output. I have a different both and a 4k TV and had to set both of them for 4k. On the specific HDMI channel for the box I had to change it but it was for that HDMI port only. The other ports are still set as 1080

I wouldn't completely discount the HDMI cables ( i had to update mine either way) HDMI 2.0 will defo cover 4K @ 60HZ (older HDMI cables like v1.2 and some v1.4 don't have the bandwidth to support HDR and 60HZ). Just check whether the spec of the cable are the same from Android Box > Amp HDMI in > Amp HDMI Out > TV. Just some from Amazon will do. What spec are they now?

Does the android box work fine via the amp if you change the picture output to 1080p or 4K @ 30HZ?

I'll try doing that next. The hdmi leads are old to be fair so I think they are probably only 1.4

Thanks for all your advice. I will get some hdmi 2.0 cables and hopefully that will work. On another note the same thing is happeneing to my TV upstairs. That is an android box connected directly to my TV and the picture goes on and off and says invalid format.

Sounds like tv cannot handle that setting as if i changed setting on my office tv i get out of range on the hd ready tv.
Are settings on automatic setting or set to a value on box and tv?

Totally forgot to ask you what model amp you have? My Yamaha could only pass through 4K @ 30Hz so now my Shield TV is plugged in directly to the TV.

Denon amp mate. So if your shield is plugged directly into the TV have you connected the TV via an optical cable then for the sound

Yes it is mate. That’s the only way I could get 4K @ 60Hz either optical or ARC HDMI from the LG Oled (although if it went via my amp then the shield would Automatically revert to 4K 30Hz.)

re: your amp we’ll need more info than it’s a ‘denon’ get the model number and stick it in google to search what 4K resolutions it can pass through via the output. To be fair your boxes are generic android ones so not sure if they are playing nice with your set up.

I think you have your bases covered: 1. Check what resolution your amp can passthrough 2. Check your HDMI cables are up to spec as well. 3. It could well be your box that isn’t automatically reverting to the available resolutions in your setup.
