Rewind not working

Newbie
I have a HDD connected to my box, and have the timeshift set up to a a folder in the parent directory but the rewind and fast forward just isn't working.

Does it only work if I have paused, or should the rewind work on the channel because I'm watching it? I can't remember....

Thanks in advance.

If you have set up timeshift properly, it will start recording when you turn to a new channel. You can set the delay on this to a couple of seconds, 30 seconds or longer etc.
Have a look through the timeshift settings menu. All your options are there.

Its not recording that works fine, its rewinding on a channel that I have been watching. I may be getting this wrong, but can you not just rewind the channel? Or do you have to have paused the channel to rewind?

I've never wanted to do it before but noticed today that when I press rewind I just get the 'stop sign'

To enable your box to rewind pause etc. Firstly you need two coax cables going into your box. One for tuner A, one for tuner B.
You cannot record or timeshift with only 1 cable (in theory you can, but lets not complicate things)

How this works...

If setup...as soon as you turn to a new channel your box starts recording to your usb/hdd using the alternative tuner to the one you are using to watch tv.
i.e Tuner A is being used to watch live tv. Tuner B is used to record your timeshift in the background.

Say you have been watching a channel for 5 minutes, timeshift will have recorded this 5 minutes. Therefore you should be able to rewind 5 mins of tv.
Timeshift also starts as soon as your press the pause button if you haven't got it set to run automatically.

When you turn over the channel, this temporary recording is deleted and the whole process starts again.

See this screen shot below.
Where I have Automatically start timeshift after... disabled, set this to 2 seconds, 30 seconds etc. This will automatically start your timeshift on a channel zap

** I might actually be lying about the fact you need 2 tuners ** ;)

Thanks for your reply!

I have the two coax cables, one of the main reasons switching the the Zgemma.

I will check my settings again to make sure they marry up with yours and see if that's the problem.

Could be anything to do with me using a HDD rather than a USB?

I can pause, but when I try to rewind, instead of it speeding up, x2 x4 etc, it goes all the way back to when I changed channels!!
