Recording on a Mag 254

I have read that recording on a MAG box is not possible without the IPTV server allowing it. I have tried it and have only managed 30 -50 seconds on a usb stick and then it stops recording.

1. This may be a stupid question but if the TV channel is playing on my screen how does the server at the other end know I am recording?.

2. Is it possible to take the output from the MAG and feed it into another device e.g. PC or media tank and record on that device.

The MAG box is really easy to use and my playback is virtually glitch free it is very frustrating not being able to record even the channel I am viewing!!!

Why record when you can have 7 days catch up on your live tv and vod is already recorded?
Hi I don't seem to have the VOD playback feature, I can access the EPG's going back in time but there are no 'clock' symbols against any of the programs, i.e. they do not playback when I click on them

Hi I entered a portal address supplied by my supplier
From my personal experiences, entering a portal address limits the functionality of the mag box as your not using the mag software. Your using the a 3rd party which is provided through the portal address you entered.
It's this portal were the issue is as I have yet to see a way of recording.
Going back to the original mag software and loading a m3u list in gives you better options but to be honest the unit will crash, lock up and freeze as the software is absolute rubbish.
So untill the 3rd party software is enabled to record (plus you getting another connection from your supplier) I think we are all stuck.
Unless anyway knows any different?
Like I say this is my personal experience.

Thanks for that info
Do you have any idea why my VOD catchup does not work? Is this an issue with portal address setup or is it a problem with my supplier?
Thanks

Not sure Pal, maybe raise the question with your supplier.
Still finding my way around the mag box, but learning fast ;-)
I'll update this thread should I come across any relevant information

The clock symbol will be next to the channel name and there will be a little symbol to the top left hand side of the programme when you go back in time in the epg if your supplier has catch up enabled or if you are looking to get VOD films and tv series you go to main start up page then next to tv you will see (video club) and that is where you will find VOD, you are better off still sticking with using the portal address if you want to keep the full functionality of your device as using an m3u file loses a lot of the services you have when using the stalker portal, you can add an m3u file for the use of recording but the go back to stalker portal for all other services. I wrote a guide on how to record on the 256 if you have multiroom and your supplier has recording turned on server side in another thread here on the site

Could you please PM me you guide on how to record on the Mag 256. I have one but I have not been able to record ? It only records for 20 seconds and then stops.

I also have the timeshift feature mentioned earlier(clock symbol) but when ever I try to use the arrow buttons to go back on the timeline, I get a blackscreen and nothing happens which is somewhat frustrating.

Hi I'm also having problems recording from an m3u list in the inner portal. Some recordings complete others dhow an error part way through it seems the longer I set the recording them more chance it will fail any ideas or instruction on what I need to do.
