Changing hydraulic brakes on mtb

I know this is more aimed at cars, but was wondering if changing hydraulic brakes on a mtb is something I could easily do myself.

I am looking at getting Shimano xt8000, and believe they are already bled, so just need put on. I understand I might need an adapter, but other than that, is it that simple?

Thanks

Jim

Just swapped mine over from Avid to Shimano M6000, m8000 worth it if you need the adjustment but these just scored 10/10 in mbr review https://www.mbr.co.uk/reviews/disc-brakes-products/shimano-deore-m6000-disc . Came ready bled but got mine from German company so had to swap levers round and re bleed. Loads of vids on howto on youtube just make sure you use mineral oil in Shimano, not brake fluid..

I saw the 6000 in a similar review, I was looking at the xt 8000.
My son got a pedal bike at Christmas, and pulled my 8 yr old bike out the shed, and the avid elixir 3 were nearly gone, the back doesn't work at all now, and read it was a common issue.
Did you need a converter for the attaching the caliper to the frame?

If your Avids are standard post mount you should be ok. Might need to use old adapter if you run a big disk. Have a watch
And take pics of old setup, makes life easy with what goes where.

Did you just use the same rotors?
