Firestick alternatives

Oh that’s interesting. Hadn’t clocked that. Have friends asking what to buy and up to now only thought of the s box
They have the same CPU and GPU so the Xiaomi has Ai upscaling but as mentioned all 4k tv upscale just some are better than others.
The Amlogic S905X5 which is a step up from Amlogic S905X5M has more advanced Ai upscaling but not that many devices about with it and also a step up in price.

Th Strong LEAP Nova 4k seems to me like the popular Onn 4k Plus with exactly the same SOC but in a stick format. There doesn't seem to be much discussion about it unfortunately but I think this could be a decent firestick alternative as it doesn't suffer from the H.264 codec issues.
I have been reading about the H.264 codec issues which I am suffering using Tivimate pro with my formuler z10 box and my firestick and LG OLED55C8PLA TV with a sonos beam gen 1 but cannot seem to find a box that doesn't have some sort of issue with this set up. Do you know of any boxes please?

Have you tried using VLC as an external player in Tivimate on your z10 which has been a fix for some on devices with the interlaced issue?
The FS 4k max does not have the interlaced issue but not sure what model you are using.
The Strong leap nova is supposed to not suffer from the interlaced issue so that’s worth considering.

I’m not saying this solution is a fix for the aforementioned issue but I was really surprised turning on Auto Matched Frame Rate in Tivimate really made a difference to me. It’s off by default. The improvement on a stuttering improvement was really noticeable on some channels. As my main I use a shield with tivimate.

Yes a box with that chipset

Ugoos AM9 PRO TV Box £230

It was cheaper on release and is a high end device. Also handles game emulation well.
Also one of the few devices on the market that can playback DV P7 FEL content using coreELEC.
Ugoos also patched the interlaced issue on Android 14 with firmware update.

I always enable AFR on the all the apps I use tbh. If you are using 50hz and 60hz live content the TV needs to know what it is being fed so it can switch correctly.
Also 24fps content really needs to be played at the correct frame rate.

Totally agree. It’s a game changer. I have assigned the menu button with frame rate matching for when not in tivimate as well.

I’m surprised it’s off by default in tivimate, although maybe because it makes your screen go black for a second once the feed starts playing and may annoy some people. I now turn on for all devices I set up for friends.
