32nm Intel Cedarview Atom Chip Due in 2011

There seems to be a number of rumors that the upcoming Intel Cedarview Atom will be a 32nm processor, the future chip will also come with a new DDR3 RAM memory controller. Engadget have learned that the new chip should be ready for release by 2011.

The Cedarview will have a graphics core that will offer support for HD playback such as Blu-ray and DirectX 10.1. Intel will even offer dual digital display support, but according to a report from netbooked.net, there are no clues as to what the increase in performance will be.

If these rumors turn out to be true, then the Atom platform will become even more interesting to customers looking for more from the little chip. Let us hope that Intel get the perfect balance between performance and power consumption.

2011 is a long time to wait, but Intel still have another project set up for 2010, Pine Trail. By 2013, Intel should have finished work on its 22nm chip. We have to wonder if there is any end to the constant progress from processors manufactures.
