Accessing a USB Drive That is Not Recognised by PC?

Hi All,

I have a WD 1TB hard drive that is powered via mains. I have tried plugging this hard drive into at least 4 different PCs/Laptops but none recognise the hard drive, hence I cannot get photos etc taken off this.

Strangely my mate has a USB stick which is currently doing exactly the same. He was recently quoted by a company anywhere from £200-600 to retrieve his data!!!

Now I would like to get my photos, files etc back, but £600, no way, think that's a bit steep!! Just wondering if anyone on here had any hints, tips, methods to try to regain access to these USB drives?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

when you plug it in can you hear the hdd spinning.maybe undo the enclosure and check the hdd is all connected up to the internal sata and power supply inside the enclosure.

Will have a look into this for my hard drive, thanks guys. Will pass information onto my mate as well. Will report back over the weekend to see if I've had any success. Cheers
