Suspected Las Vegas Strip shooter Ammar Harris made his first appearance in a Las Vegas courtroom Wednesday morning.
Harris is accused of shooting aspiring rapper Kenneth Cherry Jr. on Feb. 21 which caused Cherry's Maserati to crash into a taxi cab on the Las Vegas Strip. That cab exploded, killing the driver and a woman passenger.
Tehran Boldon, the brother of the taxi cab driver, Michael Boldon, was in the courtroom and broke down crying.
The initial hearing only lasted a few minutes. Harris told the judge he can not afford an attorney. The judge appointed a public defender to the case.
Harris was booked into Clark County Detention Center early Tuesday morning after spending nearly six weeks in a Los Angeles jail.
District Attorney Steve Wolfson said he is pleased to finally see Harris in a Las Vegas courtroom.
Harris is due back in court on April 29.
