Apple confirms 7200 rpm drive issues

You may have read our article in mid July regarding Apple’s MacBook Pro’s fitted with 7200 rpm drives, these 7200 rpm drives were said to be noisy and sometimes beeped, along with this there were said to be some performance issues.

At the time of this report Apple had not acknowledged or declined the problem, however now Apple has confirmed that there is an issue. Apple recently released this statement “We are aware of the issue and are working on a software update,”. It also appears that 500GB drives are the main drives suffering from this issue.

From that statement we can see that Apple believe that it is not a hardware fault causing the issue, and according to an article on Register Hardware the problem could be down to “code that’s causing the drive to sleep during use”. No official date has been announced for the release of the software update, however as we hear more we will let you know.

Has you MacBook Pro got this issue? Let us know exactly how its affecting you.
