Guys,

I have setup my h2s with woosh and just a small 16gb usb stick but want a external hdd instead could anyone please advise best hdd.:beg:

Cheers:lep:

I'm using a 1tb Toshiba canvio USB powered portable hdd and can't fault it so far. I know a few others on here are using the same drive too

I am running everything off of it. I got mine from Argos because I was given a £50 giftcard from work

I think majority of HDD work fine on the H.2S. I use a Toshiba canvio myself as it was the cheapest to get on amazon at the time. I know alot of users here don't like USB powered HDD's and prefer externally powered ones.

Using 3tb western digital. Any will do as long as it's formatted/initialised properly it should be fine.

What are the differences between a USB powered and external powered HDD,be ideal for USB powered as I ain't using another socket but if it's better then obviously I'll be getting an external powered one,any help guy much appreciated.

I would also like to know if there are any restrictions with USB hard drives. For example does it still record to the USB HD if the box is on standby etc. Does powering the USB HD cause any issues thats solved by a proper separate power supply? I'm currently using an old 2.5 laptop 120gb IDE in a caddy from eBay and I don't see any issues?

which hard drive?

hi Ive set up a few h2s boxes Ive also had issues with hdd if you read my posts.i used to buy second hand powered ones off fleabay had several but also had problems luckily they where mine.some say go for powered my bro got usb powered 500gb running fine.i have now gone onto 128gb sandisk usb stick £19.99 from curry's 5 year warranty.and they running great no probs. Ive read recording takes 5gb per hour recording in hd or 1gb per hour sd so loads of room and most delete when they've watched anyway.my advice is don't buy used one buy new.£20 for stick around £50 for hdd.dont buy stick on fleabay most are fake and not correct size capacity stated on stick.

I was lucky i think, Tesco had the Toshiba Canvio 1TB for £33 (yellow sticker/reduced) just as I was looking, they but them up to about £44 a few days after I got it.

its only been 6 weeks but so far I've had no problems.

I'm not sure if that's true mate just on the assumption that the sly boxes have a 500gb hard drive and can fit a few hours of programming but I might be wrong.

That's why I'm thinking 2tb will be ample.

Long winded but I managed to find the sort of drives that's in the sky boxes, bare in mind I probably have about 10 episodes of motd on the hdd as well as other things so there is 10+ hours there,so I think going buy the bottom drive a 2tb hdd will be more than ample.

Hi guys so is it the forums opinion that a toshiba/wd hard drive is preferred with an external power source of a usb. I only ask this as I am seeing that the usb ports in my zgemma are 2.0 and most of the hard drives I have seen are 3.0. Thanks in advance for any help on the matter!!
