Ok, i have:

16gb USB stick
32gb USB stick
32gb micro SD card
1Tb portable external HDD

goes without say that the 1Tb HDD is for recording. (rear usb port)

16gb USB kept in drawer for keeping Wooshbuild on when needing to flash.

what about swap files and epg etc....?? This is the bit thats confusing me a bit. Am i best having sonething separate for these??

Yeh, I'm going for same setup
500gb hdd for just recording
8gb USB for epg, time shift
8gb USB with firmware for flashing

I don't think it matters which 1 has the swap file.prob better on hdd as it would affect it less.

I think it all depends on how good your USB hardware is TBH. I know people do use a two device setup where they have a USB stick for the EPG and an external hard drive for recordings etc. Whatever you buy, don't buy cheap as you're likely to have issues with speed being slow.

Also we are talking about storage NOT memory [emoji14]

I don't see why not. Just make sure it's a good one [emoji1360]

I know the Samsung ones have been rated highly recently.

Lots use a SD card for wot, swap file and picons then a USB hdd purely for recordings.

I do but but everyone I have helped set up I have just done the single hdd for the lot

This is just my set up but i have a 16GB SD card and iv'e allocated EPG,Cross EPG,Picons,Swap file and Time shift to it. USB at rear just for recordings.

My set up with no problems - 250 GB Seagate portable USB HDD in back for recordings, 32 GB Sandisk SD card in the side for Swap file, Timeshift, EPG and Picons, 16GB Sandisk Cruzer USB with back up on it.
