Best storage/recording mediums for Octagon SF8008

Mr Bargain hunter here has managed to snap up one of these boxes on the cheap through eBay, so whilst I'm waiting I want to find the best (value) storage medium to connect to it. My old Zgemma did just fine with a 128gb Sandisk USB in the back. Is there any benefit to using a Micro USB (More expensive) or excessive detriment to using a 500gb external USB HD (cheaper)? I avoided the external hard drive on the H2S because reducing lag of any kind was a priority.

A usb 3.0 is more than capable. Will do the job.

Personally have a usb and a usb external hdd on mine.
Presuming it's the port on the side that is 3.0 (from the specs) I've gone for this so there isn't a great big arm sticking out. Could have gone for a 500gb hard disk but we really don't record much anymore.
