Freddie Head's Goldikova won a thrilling renewal of the Queen Anne Stakes on the opening day of Royal Ascot 2010.
The French raider was winning at the highest level for the ninth time - but had to hold on grimly from the late thrust of Paco Boy.
Olivier Peslier kicked for home over two furlongs out on the superstar mare and the 11-8 favourite had enough of an advantage to cling on for a neck victory.
Godolphin's Calming Influence took the field along, with Johnny Murtagh sat on his quarters on Rip Van Winkle.
As Murtagh took up the running just after halfway, Peslier was sat motionless, waiting to press the button.
When he did the response was immediate and she took three lengths out of the rest of the field, as Paco Boy met a little bit of trouble weaving through the pack.
Richard Hannon's five-year-old was catching her hand over fist in the final 100 yards, but the line came too soon.
Dream Eater at 50-1 was third, over three lengths away.
1st 10 Goldikova (IRE) 11-8 F
2nd 6 Paco Boy (IRE) 11-4
3rd 4 Dream Eater (IRE) 50-1
