Britain Opts for Mix-and-Match Vaccinations, Confounding Experts

"If a second dose of the vaccine a patient originally received isn’t available, or if the manufacturer of the first shot isn’t known, another vaccine may be substituted, health officials said."

Hahahahaha, love it. Some of these stories are great fun!

I was listening to a virologist on the radio last week that said that strategy was absolutely kosher. He gave the example of the Sputnik vaccine (which is 90-95% effective) that actually uses that strategy in the first place. It's developed by using two different common colds for each shot. So basically the same tech as Oxford have used but 2 different colds instead of 1. The higher effectiveness at Sputnik would back up that the strategy actually offers better protection.

Sorry anti-vaxers! :grimacing:

Edit: to balance this up apparently PHE disagree.... COVID-19: 'Mixing coronavirus vaccines is not recommended,' health agency warns

Does seem the oxford vaccine will be the main vaccine of the two being used over the months especially with how easy oxford one is to move around.

well someone must have advised that mixing is ok. not a decision made by politicians. and i bet other countries follow our lead.

I'm no scientist,
But I would have thought 2 different versions would have covered more bases, so to speak.
Showed your body 2 different versions of what it needed to look out for
But, wtf do I know,? not a lot probably.

Up to yesterday, 12.1 million covid19 vaccines have been administered globally

Britain will be doing a million a week before the end of January
