Close to a year after plans for the launch were first revealed streaming service BritBox has now fully launched in the UK. One of the service’s few exclusive titles at launch include the final two episodes from Midsomer Murders season 20, which wont air on ITV for several months.

It’s USP is having the “the biggest collection of British box-sets available in one place”. The subscription cost has been set at £5.99
As originally pitched, BritBox was a collaboration between the BBC and ITV and would house original content from both broadcasters. Since then, deals have been inked with both Channel 4 and Channel 5 that will see their content made available on BritBox. The three-year Channel 4 deal encompasses content from All 4 and an exclusive Film4 curated service featuring iconic British films. Said content launches in 2020.

“Channel 4 has always showcased distinctive and diverse British content and, in a world of almost unlimited choice, our public service brand values are more important than ever for viewers”, said Alex Mahon, CEO of Channel 4. “The opportunity to collaborate as PSBs on BritBox extends our track record of partnership and will ensure there is a compelling single destination for the very best high quality, home-grown content.”

Content available at launch includes all 20 seasons of Midsomer Murders (including the two exclusive episodes), Downton Abbey, Broadchurch, Only Fools & Horses, Gavin & Stacey, Extras, Agatha Christie’s Marple, and Agatha Christie’s Poirot. Another key draw for consumers will be the ability to stream all 627 available episodes classic Doctor Who. Upcoming titles include the BBC seasons of The Great British Bake Off, Les Miserables, The Split, The Office, Happy Valley and Doctor Foster.
