BT Openzone wifi and Skybox F5

A friend of mine is interested in getting a F5, but doesnt have home internet. Is it possible (and does anyone have experience) by using an ipad as a mobile hotspot when connected to unlimited wifi from BT openzone?

Cheers

As a general rule, you are best using a wired connection,
homeplugs also work fine, from reading posts Wifi can be a bit
hit and miss what ever method you use.

How are you going to get the Ipad to send a signal to the box ?

Why don't you test it with your box at your mates house ?

Ive got a LAN cable into mine from a mains socket which seems to work without problem. I understand the new ipads with a SIM allow wifi sharing and it can also be done with MyWi in cydia.

If you have an ipad sim from O2 in the UK for about £12 a month you get 1gig mobile data and can hop onto any BT openzone wifi network, with no download limit. (My mate can pick up BT Openzone in his front room)

So in theory the ipad would become a wifi router and the F5 could connect to it wireless.

I may well take mine round to test at some point, but I've just got cccam that I've paid a years subscription to, I dont want to get kicked off for using it on a different ip. Any ideas?

i have run my f5 from htc hotspot. it works but you tend to get alot of picture freeze due to the ms time lags. it works but not very stable at all homeplugs or hardwire lan is the way to go. and you will get kicked off for different ip address cause the server will think you are sharing your sub! but with openzone dont you just get a username and password? if so you could use those details on the skybox dongle to log in the dongle?

It's worth a try, if it don't work ill buy the box and put it in the kitchen.

Does the box need to be connected to the Internet for freesat channels?

Also what's the GPRS icon for in the settings? I can't find any info
