can not flash my a780 box need help

themotor

Newbie
I have a A780 kryptview box, I have tried all the suggestions to flash the box, but when I click on the start button in the send box I get the message 'download not requested' any ideas what else I need to do. Does the null modem cable need a driver? none of my computers have a 9 pin connection for a null modem cable so I bought a usb to null modem cable adapter, is this accptable?, does this set up require a driver? HELP ||

Hi themotor.

I am guessing you got your previous problem with disapearing file sorted out?
If you are using a USB to serial adapter. You need to install a driver for your USB to serial adapter, try this one by clicking this link.
If that one does not work maybe try this one. Ensure you choose the driver that matches your Operating system.

The NULL modem cable does not need a driver (just the USB to Serial adapter)

Once the USB to serial driver is installed, and With your USB to Serial adapter CONNECTED to your computer, Null modem, and box, you must do the following.

1> Go to Device Manager, type in the search function in your start menu "device manager", then open it up (or go there any way you know)
2> Expand Ports (COM & LPT) by pressing the + sign next to it (you must have the USB adapter connected)
3> Double click "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm port
4> Click port settings tab
5> Leave the default settings and select the Advanced tab
6> Set COM port to COM1 (PRESS OK) This is the default COM port the loader uses and they MUST be the same.
7> REBOOT COMP
8> Flash the box as per tutorials.

Only when above is done plug your RJ45 ethernet connector in from your router into the back of your box (peel the big black square sticker of the back to reveal it if you have not already)
Then you should be done.

Themotor, here is the answer I was posted by Siol Torcail when I had the same problem
a while back.

The above post is correct as you will need to find the driver first, then change your
com port settings.

Software loaded 1st time after making the changes.

"download not requested" is a com port or cable issue bees .... it means the box and pc aren't communicating .... either a duff null modem cable ... or the properties for the com port are not set correctly.

Added after 10 minutes:

sorry bees ....i forgot to add ... here's what the properties should be ... .......

in device manager right click on the com port and select properties , make sure they match the settings below

bits per second _____________115200

data bits __________________ 8

parity ____________________ None

stop bits __________________1

flow control________________None Last edited by Sìol Torcaill; 25-11-2010 at 01:25 AM.

A780 flashing problem....!!!!

I have followed the flashing instructions to the letter only to find everytime I try I get the message " Download Not Requested " :bang head:

PLEASE PLEASE HELP... :beg:

I thought you had flashed your Kryptview a while ago TRUE BLOOD ? You should have let me know if you were still having problems bud.
Follow the above instructions and try to flash the box like this,

open loader up and select the firmware file,
switching off the Kryptview with switch at the back. pressing START on the loader, and quickly switching the Kryptview back on with switch at the back.

Then you may have been sent a faulty NULL modem cable, I have come across 2 people who this has been the case,

let me know if you are still having problems, give me as much info as possible, and i will help you as much as i can,

JODAV

I received my Kryptview Box a few days ago and have been waiting for the Homeplugs to arrive that I ordered also.... The Homeplugs arrived today so I've been trying to flash my box tonight with no luck!

I have 2 laptops that both run on vista.

I got the box from "My Cable Box" which states it comes with a free RS232 Null Modem Cable, but both ends of this cable are the same so I bought an adapter so I could use it through the usb, now I'm wondering if I'll be better off getting a cable to connect direct through the serial port on my laptop to the serial port on the Kryptview box?

Thanks In Advance Jodav!

TRUE BLOOD

We are all giving you good info, first make sure USB driver is installed,
make sure the com port number on your computer matches the com port you are plugging the USB cable in to
you will probably have more than one so its not always com 1
Then make sure the Baud rate is right 115200

Restart your computer

Try loading the firmware again

note: Jodavs comment "press START on the loader, and quickly switching the Kryptview back on with switch at the back".

I can see you have read up on all this but if it doesn't load then it might well be a faulty null modem cable

good luck mate, and keep us informed of your progress

Hi TRUE BLOOD

Pending that you have followed the instructions on my first 2 posts above and bees post (try both drivers) and still having problems (try the instructions again before the next options),

It is a very good possibility that they have sent you the wrong cable (it may be they have sent you a normal RS232 cable instead of a NULL modem cable- they are identical to look at so no way to tell by looking- this has happened to a few people lately) TRUE BLOOD. Unfortunately the only way to find out is to go to somewhere like Maplins an buy a NULL modem cable and try again. It will cost money but you do not have much choice.

There is no direct cable you can buy TRUE BLOOD. the only way to use a direct cable is using the NULL modem cable on an older PC\laptop that has the older 9pin serial cable. If i could give
you one piece of advice that I would like you to follow (if you know you have a NULL modem cable and still have problems with the USB adapter after following my above 2 post instructions), it would be to find someone you know that has an older PC\laptop that has the 9pin serial port. Then take the box, and the Null cable round their house (you do not have to take anything else apart from the firmware and loader on a USB stick). and flash the box easily as i mention in previous post (no need to install any drivers at all, or to use the USB adapter)

Let us know how you get on and do not hesitate to ask me any more questions.
