Sky Sports sources have confirmed that Manchester City's bid for James Milner is £20million.

Skysports.com revealed earlier this week that a bid had been made by City for the England international star.

Now sources have confirmed to Sky Sports News that the initial bid to land Milner is for £20million.

It is believed the offer includes other add-ons which would see the deal increased to around £25million.

The bid is now sitting on the boardroom table at Villa Park as they consider their options.

Both owner Randy Lerner and manager Martin O'Neill have insisted over recent weeks that they wanted Milner to stay.

Now City have tested their resolve and hope to beat the likes of rivals Manchester United to Milner's prized signature.

Milner is currently with England's World Cup squad at their pre-tournament training camp in Austria.

with all the money they are going to throw around, I hope the players are the managers choice, and not the boards. dont know if milner is a Mancini type player

If we bring Richard Dunne back as a centre half LOL

no he is a good player, but i hope the manager is making the decisions, not the board

Aston Villa reject Man City's £20m for James Milner

Aston Villa have turned down Manchester City's £20m bid for their England international James Milner.

"We have received an offer from Manchester City for James Milner and this has been firmly rejected," said a Villa spokesman late on Wednesday.

"We plan to sit down with James and his representative after the World Cup to agree a new long-term deal and this remains our position."

The 24-year-old midfielder was recently named PFA Young Player of the Year.
