Connecting to my Octagon abroad?

Hi Guys, I have left Octagon sf8008's abroad in my Holiday properties in Turkey and France.
My Q, is it possible to connect to those Octagons from here in UK?... to load Channel Lists and make S/W Changes and Setup?
I think i remember someone from Germany connecting to Dreamboxes here in UK years ago and implementing changes via Internet.
NOT talking about Teamviewer but Internet and Router. Both are permanently Connected to Internet via Router
Cheers

You would need to open a port and set port forwarding on your router in the each of the properties.

ie if your turkish ip is 6.5.4.3, on your router open up port 8080 and set up port forwarding to the box ip and port ie 192.168.0.20:80 and then when you access http://6.5.4.3:8080 remotely it would redirect to openwebif on the box. It's unlikely that you can set up port forwarding remotely

It is a security risk, you need to make sure openwebif (or whatever service on your box you want to access) is password protected etc otherwise if someone sniffs the ip address they could gain access to your box and network and use it for all sorts

@grog68,
Thanks for the speedy reply. Seems thats what the problem will be, the security risk.
Better to bring the Boxes back and do the work at Home.
Bad idea then.

Not a bad idea necessarily just need to make sure it's all secure. You could for example restrict the IP that can access them etc.

To administer my (geographically) remote networks I use Tailscale - basically a zero-config vpn based on wireguard. Once set-up, there's no need to open any ports or for any port forwarding and you effectively have your own peer-to-peer encrypted private mesh network. It's ridiculously easy to setup and manage. IMHO, everyone should use it.
