Disgusted today...

I was in Booker's cash and carry today which is trade only. There were no eggs, bread, nappies, hand sanitizer, milk etc because they had all been bought by non English speaking convenience store shopkeepers. The warehouse opened at 6.am but the shopkeepers were queuing at 5.15 am to buy all of those. A carton of six eggs trade price is 65p with £1.00 marked on the box, which gives a profit of 35p per carton. The shopkeepers were selling the eggs for £4.50 per carton which is a profit of £3.85
All the other products were similarly marked up with hand sanitizer at £9.00!!

One of the corner shops customers called the councils trading standards to complain about profiteering. An officer went to speak to one of the shopkeepers who said Booker's cash and carry had trebled their normal trade prices. No they hadn't. :rage:

The prices in Booker's hadn't gone up at all. The shopkeepers are liars and profiteers.

It's disgusting that people are taking advantage of the situation. The sheer volume of products they'll sell at the moment should bring enough profit at their normal mark up. I think they have a moral obligation to serve their customers at a fair price.

There is no moral compass out there afraid to say, I have seen asian supermarkets that got some things from for family with crazy prices for canned tins, milk, bread etc daily essentials. Even called them out on it and they bluntly said "we are allowed to set our own prices" which translates to we can rip of desperate customers and they need us.

Bloody sick of these robbing c*nts and how they are happily just ripping people of blind. Feel like bricking their shop windows.

Seen an add on facebook saying he had spare face masks for sale and gloves as they were closed and asked how much and no reply.I saw him at lunch time and asked how much? 50 masks per box =50 euro
Box on internet was under 7 quid but sold out

This is how the 99% of the world operates. the one with the power will always have the last say be it the government or the local shop keeper. there is no compassion left anywhere in the world with people who have power. its down to the little people like us who really care.

Just tell them they will be out of business when it's all over as they have been added to an online profiteering list and will be blacklisted into bankruptcy

These are the eggs which are pre priced. They cost 65p so the profit is 35p per box which is a POR (Profit on return) of 35%. If sold at the rrp is at the higher end of the scale anyway for foodstuff.

I ran the inflated cost through a G.P.C and it came out at a Gross Profit Margin of 85.56%. There is zero VAT on foodstuffs in the UK. These profiteers have added a 50.56% levy onto the eggs themselves which maybe we should think up a name for

People will remember these shopkeepers when we come out of this, they are trading on peoples worries, having said that i think the supermarkets should have started restricting how many items people can buy as soon as the panic buying started.

I agree. Booker's staff told me they had 12 months supply of food if people just bought at their normal rates. It's the morals of the panic buyers who are stockpiling that is fuelling the problem.

Unfortunatley demand sets the price, if people are stupid enough to pay these inflated prices then it will carry on. If people used their heads and said no and went elsewhere then the shopkeepers would have to reduce the prices as the demand drops.

It happens everywhere, if there was just one or two people selling IPTV they would charge £100's for a years sub, because demand is high and availability is low.

Take Premier inn, I booked a couple of rooms in January for a stay in February, when I first looked it was £41/night per room, I went to book a couple of days later and it was £46/night. A week before we stayed, I just looked out of curiosity and the price was £82/night. Fewer rooms available as they have been booked over time, price increases.

I'm not saying what the shopkeepers are doing is right, but it is what happens in Business every day

I got 6 chickens which cost me £8 each to buy so 6 eggs and i am in profit by £1, Fook better get another dozen chooks laying :mask: 18 eggs a day is £27 x 7 days = £189 a week

You got shops blindly robbing people and such people I get are desperate but still pay stupid prices.

Then people in panic are just taking it all for themselves without thinking of others and being pure selfish.

The whole chaos has proved to me even more so how f*cked this world is. People out for themselves and those who are profiting from such a chaos.

I have seen with my own eyes how alot are behaving and makes you ashamed to be human. Just have no hope for whats out there.

The convenience stores always charge more as their rents and stock are higher priced than supermarkets.
Their stores are near council estates and their customers are local who walk to the shop each day for small quantities of groceries. Some customers cannot choose a different shop as there isn't one nearby. Asda are now quoting 7 days delivery so in effect the convenience store customers are captive audiences.

Yeah my local corner shop is delivering a pint of milk and a small loaf of bread to all the local elderly in bungalows aswell as paying for the paper lads in a morning out of his own pocket because he gets a lot of business from the elderly usually that come into the shop that are now staying indoors etc.
His little old escort van is now up and running with a little tlc (y)

It is a sad state of affairs.

The local shops know they can make a killing especially if not supermarket is nearby.

So customers locally have no choice but to be ripped off and pay the prices set by local shops.

I have one stop near me and tbh they are fairly priced not out to rip off customers like the local/corner shops.

I've read loads of posts like this across the internet and it's disgusting that people are profiting to such levels I agree. Whether they are talking about Booker, Costco or Makro or any other wholesaler. Having said that these "non English speaking" individuals (keen to see your proof of this other than your ignorant assumption, English might not be their first language but that doesn't mean they can't speak it) have a businesses to run. Some people rely heavily on these small shops. The only place I have managed to get any bread and milk this week has been from my small independent "Euro" market (no inflated pricing). It's actually run by a nice Polish guy, rarely speaks English but certainly can if he wanted to.

Your comments are offensive I've seen plenty of white/brown/black english speaking people take advantage of current climates. Unfortunately, this isn't about ethnicity or race the people taking advantage are awful regardless. This entire situation is bringing out the worst in people and it's clearly brought out some of your $hittyness. It's funny whenever $hit hits the fan people look to blame or moan at those who are different to themselves.

I'm disgusted by your thread more than the "non English speaking convenience store shopkeepers" behaviour.

I agree with some of what you have said mate.

Alot of local shops around the country are of different races and background and should be treated with respect irrespective of how they are making money and taking advantage of people in this climate.

Its not about the colour of the skin its about those who are taking advantage of people and how they are going about it. Whether they are black, brown, white, pink, orange should not be looked at imo.

I have few local shops near me. One is romanian and a few others are asian. Nice people tbh, can have a chat to them and they can speak english. Even if they couldnt speak english wouldnt bother me at all.

Seen alot of hate towards asian people from certain groups out there. Blaming it on them the virus that has spread. Hate just seems to take over people and its just not on. Trying to blame the virus on people who are difference race and ethnicity to that other person is just f*cked up and seems certain people will exploit that situation as "normal"
