Anybody got one of these, looking at them on fb marketplace. Stick it on the worktop in the kitchen. Seems to be plenty of devices available at various prices. Looking at show 8 or 10.is it possible to sideload apps on these, a quick Google says maybe not. There's even a 21 inch out there now at a mad price. I've already got 2 echo dots, with great sterio sound. Be interested to know if there worth a punt. Possibly to view cctv via silk browser. Various reports saying there full of amazon shi# adverts. That's wots holding me back. Cheers
 
Wait till Prime day (The event is back from 8th-11th July 2025) and take a punt. Worst case, if you can't sideload - its Amazon, factory reset and easy returns process :)

I got the 8 , it’s in the kitchen , I use it purely to play music and for a slideshow of family photos. They do display Amazon ads , I turn these off but have to do this every few months cos they do come back. Never tried sideloading and don’t think u can. Mines a few years old now , I think the software updates are screwing it up slowly so get the latest generation.
You can do stuff like display recipes , show the weather , view who’s at the doorbell….though it’s quicker to walk to the door. Did once put the football on it cos I had Amazon prime …not sure if you can watch movies but I guess so if I could watch football
 
Thanks lads, it would be mainly for Spotify and you tube. I believe these both work. How do you switch off the adds. Ime looking at the 8th 3rd gen. 🤞👍
 
Wot version you got mate, is it worth getting, as I have the echo dots. Do you tube and Spotify play OK. 👍
 
Mines gen 1 , no wonder it’s slowing down , didn’t realise I’d had it that long. I use Spotify fine , don’t use you tube , Spotify just the same on dots but sound better than dots , I assume that’s the case with the latest gen but haven’t checked . When this dies I would get another , we like the photo slideshow , you get 5 gig free without prime , unlimited photos with prime.

It’s worth checking if YouTube works on them, heard they have issues. I have the nest hub which is perfect for YouTube. Much smaller screen though.
