FilmPlus on an Android tablet

Hi,

I'm running FilmPlus on an Android tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab4), it's been running perfectly well for quite some time after it was recommended to me by a friend. There are sometimes some issues with finding sources for stuff, but I expect that's just the nature of this kind of product. Recently, though, I've run into an issue that I can't seem to get around, and I wondered if anyone had seen the same thing and, hopefully, knew a way around it.

I'm currently running the latest 2.3.9r release, which was updated from the in-app link. I recently had to skip a version, maybe 2.3.8, because it wouldn't open anything on the device, so I resisted all the prompts to upgrade to that. When 2.3.9r appeared, I did the upgrade and all was fine, I've watched a few things without any trouble, other than the usual issues with some streams. It even looks like they've implemented a thing I suggested, though they might have done it regardless of my email.

However, at the start of last week I ran into a problem. When I open the app, the default "Trending" category comes up, but doesn't populate with any titles. I could open my "Favourites" and they would be there, but when I tried to move to the next level, there wasn't the usual list of seasons. I cleared the cache, and that didn't help, then I removed all data, and that restored the "Trending" list, but not any of the next-level screens, for example if I just tap on a series from the trending screen there would be nothing there - but the next time I go in, the trending list is empty. I have uninstalled and gone back to 2.3.7r, and that did the same - restored the "Trending" list, but nothing else, then later I go back in and Trending is empty too.

There is no environmental change - the device is old enough that it doesn't update any more, the broadband had not changed at the point it stopped working. A few days after it failed my broadband was changed from an old copper line to full fibre, but the router is the same, the tablet runs Chrome and other stuff without any problems, and the FP failure was prior to the line change.

I note that there's another thread with links to FP downloads, are these different to the versions that would be provided from the in-app upgrade procedure? I've always just used standard versions of the app and the recommended player, until a fairly recent version of Bear Player that showed five seconds of programme followed by a full-screen advert, then another five seconds then another advert, so I had to switch to an "ad free" version of it and have since resisted the prompts to upgrade. But this issue I'm having is before we get anywhere near the video player stage.

Having read around here earlier on (prior to joining up) I did download BeeeTV, but I'm not sure I'm getting that from the correct place - the first download just tried to open a couple of browser pages when I started it, and the second one showed a trending list that was very similar to FP but wouldn't go any further - a strange coincidence that it's similar symptoms to FP. I figured at that point it's probably best to join up and ask for help.

Sorry for the photo of a screen - I can't remember how to do a screenshot, the tablet only gets used for FP these days.

Thanks for any advice you can provide. Sorry for the long-winded first post.

a few of these apps that require add-ons are not working properly at the minute.

Streamio is very hit at miss as well

There are plenty of other options available

Thanks. I've just downloaded the version from on here, and after uninstalling the previous one (it wouldn't install over that one), this does seem to be working again now. If it was something at the other end that was causing the problem, then of course maybe that would have worked too, but I didn't think of trying it. I've had this situation before, but only for day or two, this was unusual in persisting for a couple of weeks.

I'll have to look into some of the other options, one of those I tried earlier wasn't supported on a tablet. I'm quite new to this - not IT, I was doing that for decades, but I was told about FilmPlus, it all worked, so I left it alone.

Well, that went well. I was able to watch stuff using the version I downloaded on here, so that was great. I did find that I couldn't get subtitles to work, which was an issue as I started to watch the first episode of "Tehran", but I'll research that further and just watch something else for now. I also found that a few seconds into watching anything, a pop-up appears with "Unfortunately FilmPlus stopped" (or words to that effect), but it didn't stop the viewing as presumably it's handed over to whatever player it's using by that point. Come to think of it, that must be something other than Bear Player as I'm no longer getting prompts to upgrade that.

So thanks again for the support.

Thanks, I'll do that. On the versions I was using prior to your download it used Bear Player, I must admit I presumed that it would still be doing so. I haven't been in any of the menus as it was basically working, I see now it's defaulted to ExoPlayer, so I'll change that later on, cheers.
