Hi Ted,
My name is jodav and I will try to help you with your Kryptview :)
I could talk ou through using a USB to serial cable with a NULL cable but there are so many differentials with different comps\BIOS\operating systems that it can be hard to communicate effectively in good time, so I will not bother. Take the below advice which fingers crossed should be OK.
My advice is use a computer that has the old
NINE pin MALE serial adapter so all you need to use is the Null modem cable, this eliminates the need for a USB to serial cable connected to the NULL modem cable. If you do not have a desktop\laptop with this type of old connector on I suggest find a friend who does (this should be the only hard part with the whole process). The older the comp the more chance it has this connector.
Once an older comp is found, forget about doing anything in device manager etc (no need to set COMM ports, BAUD rate or anything), you will be able to flash your Kryptview as per the tutorial with no problems.
It is
MOST important you have the NULL modem cable as opposed to a RS232 cable. They look
visually exactly the same but are wired
differently inside. So
ensure you are positive you are using a NULL modem cable.
Very Important things.
1 Find an old comp with
9pin serial connector.
2
Ensure you are using a NULL modem cable.
3 Serial connection is
not hot plugable, so reboot laptop once you have plugged the NULL cable in.
5 Follow
this tutorial closely (take your time) and you should have no problem.
4 The box only needs to be flashed once manualy, after that you need to reflash over the Internet with the boxes LAN connection, so you will not need to find an older computer for future flashes. More on that if you need it once you have your manual flash done.
Good Luck Ted,
jodav :)
