Getting rid of annoying ads on Raspberry Pi

If anyone is interested I have a build sheet for a Pi using Pi-hole & Cloudflare(d) to act as your DNS server and encrypt DNS queries (DoH) and block popup ads (via DNS). Pi-Hole is also a very decent DHCP server and can be used to replace the DHCP server in your router.

So your DNS queries are then invisible to your ISP and also Pi-Hole blocks ad popups by DNS. You can either set your DHCP server options to make your Pi your DNS server on your network or just use Pi-Hole for DHCP & DNS - all DNS queries are then encrypted and those to ad sites are blocked. This will work work with any device connected to your network including Android boxes, smart TVs etc etc.

Encrypting DNS queries may help with ISP blocks for IPTV. You can use your Pi as DNS for your VPN as well if you wish.

I'm using a Pi version 4

If you also use Adblock and Ghostery on your desktop then that's pretty much 100pc of ads blocked.

Bit techy but a great use for Raspberry Pi
