Glitch/Freeze BT fibre

Hi. H2s running wooshbuild latest version freezes pretty much on the hour every hour sometimes more. Provider just blames my Internet but I can't find fault with Internet. Tried other test lines and they are worse. BT hub has smart setup switched off. Is there anything else I can try or is this freezing normal. How much is considered normal? I have reset router and box numerous times nothing improves it. Starting to think that maybe something on the router is causing this or some sort of interference from BT. I am hard wired with ethernet also

What sort of signal you getting from dish ? go into menu>setup> service searching>signal finder and it will tell you. always start from the beginning and eliminate one by one

Signal strength is always around 95% on FTA and paid channels vary between 75% to 90% strength and I get the freezing on all paid channels. No issues at all with any FTA

OK, could be better but doubt thats causing your regular freezing. How far from router are you for running ethernet cable ? you say you've tried different test lines all from same source or different

Router to box is around half a metre away. Tried different cables and it made no difference. Lines were from different sources. Some days are better than others sometimes it may only free once per 1-2 hours for a few seconds. Other times its 2-3 times per hour. I guess that points to a crap line?

What is normal signal strength? Do I need to get this checked out?

How much freezing is to be expected? I guess no one has 100% freeze free viewing.

Mine freezes once in a blue moon, it tends to be only on certain channels tho, i.e good food channel, local channel ( bristol, leeds, tyne & wear etc)

I'm 100% FTA and 85-90% for premium channels but it all depends what in direct line of sight for dish.
Yours may have moved with the high winds we've had but as i say your dish is pretty good but not the best.

Have you tried a reflash ? it may be worth thinking of if you have tried everything else. Just remember to save your line details before as you will lose them once reflashed

Before a reflash I would try using google's or some other DNS servers in your box, google's are 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8, are you using mgcam or cccam? Does it improve after box turned off and on? Do the FTA channels freeze? Just some details that will help others help you :)

I was using n line with mgcam and it was awful. Freezing every 5 mins so my provider gave me c line and I now use ccam which has improved it a lot. FTA never freezes. Switching box off and on does seem to help sometimes. How do I change the dns servers on the box?

I also deleted a few unwanted plugins to see if it helped. I also have cacheflush set to run every 5 mins and I have the maximum memory set. Also disabled timeahift. I have epg, picons, swap file on an sd and use usb for recordings only. Not sure if any of this helps.

You change them via network, adapter settings, edit DNS, delete whats there, usually your router ip address and enter google's, you will have to select add dns to add more than one.
Do you have a storage device for youe EPG etc mounted? Have you tried replacing the mg_cfg file with the one from here? mgcam1.38 & newcamd.list & mg_cfg - Downloads - TechKings can help on mgcam if yours is not a modified one. Is your ABM scan up to date?

Epg/picons/swap file are on 64gb genuine Samsung sd card and recordings are on 128gb SanDisk cruder blade usb. ABM scan runs every day at 5am so I assume it's up to date. I thought it may be something to do with bt as I had a fault with router which they replaced but it still happens. My router kept going off but the new one is working fine.

I dont know if its relevant but a few guys i know who had swapfile/epg etc on sd card found that was causing lag (blue ring top left corner of screen) they swapped to ext hard drive and never had any more problems.

look here for google dns swap https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCm1FWradfo

Thanks for the link

I might try moving epg etc onto my usb stick instead and see if it helps. I put them on the sd card due to reading all the posts about not using a usb or usb hdd for epg etc due to it being accessed all the time and causing damage or burning out the usb port.....Can't afford external powered hdd at the moment. I will try changing the dns settings as well. If all else fails I may have to look at changing supplier.

What sort of ecm times are you getting?
Using wooshbuild you can view ecm times by pressing OK twice while watching tv

Have you checked if the frozen cam check is set to off in the softcam panel menu. This can cause freezing. I don't use wooshbuild but should be the same Menu > Info panel > Softcam panel setup

Ecm times are generally around 0.17x to 0.19x. Highest I saw was about 0.215. I check that frequently when freezing happens and it's never above 0.250. Most of the time it's between 0.170 and 0.190

I am on BT Infinity 2 and had freeze problems, not as severe as yours mind you. Someone suggested to me about changing the DNS I have added Googles as well as the BT one and then rebooted the hub and zgemma and haven't seen the issue since. That was about two weeks ago, previously I had the issue around once to three times a day.

Frozen cam check.....I will check tonight...I assume it should be set to on?

Ok. Thanks

I will also try the dns settings. To be honest bt router is rubbish in my opinion so it wouldn't surprise me if that had something to do with it.

1 thing I failed to mention. If I watch something on iptv or kodi for example it plays perfectly, no buffering etc and plays in 1080p. Would this rule out an Internet problem with the h2s and would this then point back to the problem being with my line? Sorry for all the questions I am slowly learning all of this!!

The weird thing is the freezing always happens on the hour. Very rarely it's at another time but I can pretty much guarantee that it will free as soon as the clock reaches the hour mark.

No buffering watching movies etc would indicate that its not a internet problem but a server problem and the fact its regular and you can set your watch to it also indicates this.
