HDMI Cable advice

Hello - hopefully someone maybe able to advise - I have been having trouble since changing my tv to an LG C5 with picture flickering when changing inputs on my Yamaha AVR (RXA2A), previous Panasonic TV had no issues

My TV is connected via HDMI 2 ACR into the Yamaha, and my Sky Q box & Firecube connected into the AVR

When flicking from the firecube so Sky, or back to Firecube, the picture goes blank immediately for say 1-2 secs, so not anything major, but irritating me none the less, especially as the TV it replaced there was never any such issues

Reading online this isn't a new issue and is well documented (annoyingly) - however I've tried a few things to no avail and also brought new HDMI cables, however I am assuming the problem cable is the TV to the amp, so I have read to buy a certified HDMI cable, the one I used last week link below has not cured the problem, but also doesn't read as being certified

Link

So my question is, is it worth spending more on a certified cable like the below for example? I feel ultimately this will be a problem I'll just have to live with but willing to try anything to rectify

Link

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

No idea if relevant as my sony bravia tv is wired like this
H7S to tv via hdmi
From tv to onkyo amp i run a Spdif cable to audio amp in.
I always used a better quality cable over ones that come with units

In terms of cables I would always suggest getting amazon basic HDMI cables as they are certified and work great. Going to your issue so flicking source from sky to cube causes the issue ..? Wonder if that because cube has HDR/DV setting active or on 60fps as this can cause screen going dark a few seconds before TV adjusts to source.

I have always used certified hdmi cables and Amazon basics are good but can deteriate after time.
I recently changed mine due to Dolby Atmos problems, I bought the Official Sky ones, not the Q ones the ones that come with the Sky stream boxes, they sorted my problems out and they are relatively cheap from official Sky sellers.
You can tell the difference of wires as the Stream ones are coloured just on the ends and not on the whole plug end

This is pretty much it, I'm sure its to do with refresh rate change - its like when Tivimate switches from a 50FPS to a 60FPS or the other way and you have that second or two flicker as it adjusts the to the correct rate

Common one - we have youtube on the firecube, flick to Sky and after a few seconds randomly when we go to recordings on the tv guide it will go black for a second or two then it will be fine onwards, or if you flick to the firecube from Sky same again but not as noticable as the home screen is dark anyway

In the grand scheme of things its not major, but it irritates the you know what out of me, especially as the TV it replaced never had said issue

I've read it can be something called a handshake issue also

On my H7S if i am looking at hd content and change over to 4k picture blinks in the changeover while it adjusts.

Is your stream also changing that way to alter the picture?

Have you tried AVR connected to TV eARC HDMI port and devices connected directly to Tv HDMI ports?
The handshake will be handled by your TV and not your AVR.
You will need to set your TV to audio pass through to AVR
You will always see black screen refresh rate change.
Devices with HDMI QMS can help alleviate this.

No not tried this - mainly as I'll need to get some longer HDMI cables, as space is tight on the stand to hide the cables I (maybe foolishly) brought cables as close to the perfect fit as possible

Here is a video of it that I took last night

Definitely a refresh rate issue , not really related but there’s a newish iptv app out called wave. The ui on it looks class but it has the same momentary black screen thing when changing either channel or groups/categories. Turning off auto refresh rate doesn’t fix the issue..

Yeah that looks like TV switching refresh rate to match the input.
You would need check what refresh rate capabilities your Panasonic had.
Newer TVs have improved matching and the C5 having a native 120hz panel with VRR so will switch to correct refresh of the content or device refresh rate settings.
I would try what I suggested to see if the handshake and refresh rate switching improves as my switch doesn’t last as long as yours on my G4 when switching devices.
Which could be caused by the AVR handling the switch between devices.

Thanks I'll give it a try, old TV was a Panasonic TX55GZ950B, just googled it and says "Native Refresh Rate: 100Hz/120Hz"

Probably as you suggest going via the TV is the better way to go, least I can make use of the TV remote

On your LG you can also set quick actions for the numerical numbers 1-8 on the remote, so long pressing one of the numerical keys will switch to a desired input or app on the TV.

Appreciate your help - I'll report back when I get a few hours to mess with it. I've brought an enigma 2 box for freesat so could do with resetting the lot and starting again
