hi,

i have bought a zgemma star 2 enigma box and it should be with me tomorrow

once i plug it in what else do i need to do, i have yet to purchase a gift(CCcam cline) - what and where do people recommend regarding this and with so many varied prices for these - is it best to buy cheap and save money incase there are issues or best to pay more and hope that the line is with out fault or issue

i am in ireland and have been qouted everything from 30 euro to over 100 euro for a CCcam Cline per year.

getting back to setup - i have read a certain amount but would like a good idea of the steps i need to take to set the box up, i want to have the sky skin i have heard about - how do i get this.

thanks and looking forward to lots of tips and hints

you can request a test line in this section of the forum.

Read all the stickies at the top first

If you are happy with the test line, then a paid line from the same server should be good. Make sure you test it when you are going to use it though. i.e evenings for movies, weekend for football etc. If it starts freezing or glitching, try another.
Everyone pays different prices for lines. It's Russian roulette. A cheap line doesn't necessary mean its a bad line, and vice versa an expensive line doesn't necessarily mean its a good line.
Due to the volatile nature of this business, their is no guarantee anyone is going to be around tomorrow, so I always recommend getting a line for a shorter period of time, i.e monthly, 3 months 6 months etc.

You can get up to speed with the terminology by reading the glossary at the end of my barebones guide.

If you are totally new I recommend one of the pre-made backup images in the stickies of this 2s section. All have step by step instructions that are superb if you follow them exactly to the letter. All have everything already set up including a sky skin and the correct settings. All you then have to do is insert your line. I highly recommend wooshmans build as he has tried to make everything as simple as possible for new people.

cheers kiddac for the info.....i have been doing a lot of reading and have downloaded openatv 5.3 and some other files and instructions, and filezilla already downloaded too so i can install my line when i get it.

i could have easily bought a box all set up with everything ready to go but in ireland people are making a lot of money and selling them for 200-300 per box some with a line some without - so i read enough to make myself confident that i could set the box up myself, i have hacked my ps2 & ps3 back in the day, and my wii so i thought this cant be any harder and it saves me a lot of money by doing it myself - will certainly look at the wooshman build and your setup guide aswell.

thanks

i am setting up my new zgemma box slowly figuring it out - its more difficult than i thought but i am after stumbling on a problem

i installed some basic plugins from your guide and after doing so turned box off and back on to reboot and now everytime i press the menu button i get a blue screen saying its crashed and has to reboot again

/home/root/logs/enigma2_crash_xxxxxx.log

  • this above is the first line i get
any thoughts as to how i can rectify
i have tried to re flash the box using a usb but that wont work for me at all

zgemma crash log pic.jpgwtf

that address is where it saves crash logs files. ftp into your box and you will see your logs. Open them up with something like notepad++ as they will be more readable then.

I have seen a few people mention this menu button crash over the last few weeks. I have no idea what is causing it.

that looks like the dvdplayer plugin is crashing your box.

that will live in either

/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions

or

/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/SystemPlugins

I don't have it installed so can't remember which one it lives in.

ftp to that location and delete the dvdplayer folder.
