Hive Wiring Query

Just ordered the Hive heating and hot water for our oil boiler, so we don't have to switch the heating on just to get hot water.
Took off my Thermostat (centaur plus c17) and the wiring is shown in pic below.

Everything is basically the same except There is a wire from live to common according to the diagram. To get hot water functional would it be as simple as swapping from live - common to live - 3 (HW ON)

Attached the hive guide too.

Cheers

It doesn't look like you have enough wires at the clock.
Do you have any valves anywhere,?
You need at least one to turn the heating off,
How old is the install,?
Without seeing it I'd hazard a guess you have a gravity hot water with a cylinder

Edit : you need to remove the link from live to common, you do not need it with your new clock.

Yeah thsts what I was thinking. Looks like a wire has been cut short to make a wire for the live to common?
And yes mate you're right it's a gravity fed system.
You think it needs an additional wire that feeds hot water on?

Also according to the manual I think it said to leave the heating off and hw off disconnected and just feed the two on.
Cheers for the reply been wrecking my brain

Looks like your system is setup as above so not as straightforward a fix as you assumed, as you only have one wire supplying the common for the cylinde/room thermostats.

It’s hard to say m8 I’m only second guessing like @steptoe you could check and confirm if you have a thermostat at the hot water tank see what wiring is there and also check and confirm wiring at room thermostat. If it’s wired as the above schematic you should be able to get hot water on its own by turning down the room thermostat so it doesn’t start the central heating pump.

No room or hot water Thermostat. I'm beginning to believe everything in this house is done wrong lol

Must be a basic system and everything integrated within the boiler as you basically have one switched wire which turns pump/boiler on/off so unsure how your going to get HW only with current setup.

do you have any valves, or just a pump on the heating side.?
if you have a pump on the heating side your easiest solution would be to fit a wireless clock
its doubtful there are any more wires in the wall, old systems didnt have luxuries like that
but you really need to fit a tank stat to be on the safe side to stop overboiling the tank and risk it exploding, especially if you have a plastic header tank, which is very likely given the apparent age of the install
there are workarounds to sorting this, but you need to be fairly savvy with your DIY skills
let us know exactly what stats pumps valves etc you have and I can tell you exactly how to sort it

when I was contracting in the UK I used to specialise in wiring oddball heating systems

I couldn't find any pumps when doing a big look around. I will pm you pictures of the setup so you have a rough idea. As you say the system is completely outdated and will definitely need some modifications
