how do I recover deleted photos.

hi guys bought my self new pc so I transferred all my music and photos on to a memory stick (I thought) so I deleted every thing off my old pc.set up my new one,and low and behold couldnt find any of my music or photos on the memory stick,still got my old pc and it would be easy to set up again but I don't know to retrieve deleted photos,can some one explain how to do this in simple terms as I am not an expert with pcs.any help would be appreciated.:gl:
