Intel 48-Core Processor: SCC Coming in 2010

but the idea of Intel and its Single-chip Cloud Computer (SCC) is mind blowing. This experimental chip with its 48-core processor will be put to good use for research and development teams working on massively parallel computations.
The chip is about the size of a postage stamp, 567 square millimeters to be precise. The new chip will combine a number of elements from 24 dual-core processing, each will have their own router as well as DDR3 memory controllers, each will be able to handle up to 8GB of RAM each.
According to ZD Net, no performance reports have been disclosed, but we do know that the 48-Core Processor will have 1.3 billion transistors and use about 125 watts of power. We were shocked to learn that Intel plan to make this chip available to research and development teams in the first half of 2010.
Intel made the announcement in Braunschweig, Germany, which is where their R&D center is based. The previous name of SCC was Rock Creek and uses 45nm technology and a 6×4 node and dimensional mesh configurations.
