Ipod Touch Frozen again

Linny40

TK LADY VETERAN
My friend repaired my ipod touch for me (1st Gen) and it worked fine - was a bit slow and froze now and again but i could use it and add music apps etc to it.

It was dead yesterday and as usual i charged it up using the usb on the pc. All of a sudden my i tunes came up error whilst syncing and charging. now when i plug it into pc and open itunes nothing happens its not recognising it.

Now when i turn on all i get is the apple. Last night this kept trying to turn off but wouldnt. This morning screen was clear, i tried to turn on and again just get the apple.
Last time it went wrong it was stuck in restore mode.

Also forgot to mention that i have trouble accessing the itunes store from my pc - im still having connection problems that are intermitant
Any ideas peeps on what happend or how to fix it.
Ive tried to press both buttons to restore it and also tried opening it with my pc but nothing.

My friend has the IPOD Touch and was saying that he had problems with turning it on, like it would not load anything up, i'll see if he still has this problem and will ask him if he has fixed it yet or not, maybe it will help you Linny. (y)

had this with the others shuffle, it should let you do a factory reset with the option of using the sofrware all ready loaded on your ipod. it then should re-synce and re-install the stuff thats already loaded on your ipod. the things a pain seems to have a 24 month life then they pack up. and we have to do all this.

nope it wont let me do anything, similar to what it did before, but this time i plug it in and itunes does not even pick it up. Its just the apple which comes on then goes off. At least last time it was stuck in restore and itunes picked it up, but just wouldnt let you do anything. I have no idea how my mate fixed it but im sure it was the same firmware as ive seen on here
When you buy it you MUST get the apple insurance coz if you dont get it within the 12 months then your stuffed coz you cant get it after, and apparently according to the apple store any other insurance or warranty you have apple dont recognise. so say if you buy one from John Lewis you get a 2 yr warranty, but if you try n take it to apple they say its not covered!.

Problem is they monopolise the market!
Ive just bought George a new one and one for my other son so i know ive got no choice but to get them insured with apple after christmas so thats like £80 for the 2

turn it on and hold the dial top and bottom think its for about 30 secs, the apple should go and then you should beable to reset it. if my memory is still working.

yes thats what i did before but it wont do it this time - its kaput! lol! just hope that the battery dies and it might start working again once battery is half charged or something

Information from Apple themselves:

iPod only shows an Apple logo and doesn't start up

Symptoms

You may need to restore or update your iPod, iPod mini, or iPod nano by placing it in Disk Mode if only an Apple logo appears when you turn it on.

Resolution

If this happens, the iPod software may have been damaged. Put iPod into Disk Mode, then restore or update iPod's software.

1. Put iPod into Disk Mode.
2. iPod should appear in the iTunes Source pane and on the desktop or in a Finder window, or in the My Computer window.
3. If a message appears that says the volume could not be mounted and asks if you want to initialize the disk, choose to initialize iPod's disk. Use Mac OS Extended format (HFS Plus) if you have a Mac, or FAT32 if you have a Windows PC.

Warning: This process cannot be undone. All of your songs, videos, and other files will be deleted. Always make a backup of your important data.

4. Follow the steps to update or restore iPod. If you manually put iPod into Disk Mode it may need to be reset before you can use it.
5. If you cannot put iPod into Disk Mode after performing these steps, it may need to be repaired. You can arrange for repair at the iPod Service Website.

In Europe, please schedule a service appointment with either an Apple retail store or a local Apple Authorised Service Provider.

In Australia, simply complete the online iPod service request form or take your iPod to a local Apple Authorised Service Provider.

cannot put it into disk mode or do anything with it and itunes does not recognise it when its plugged it.

Plus took it to apple before and they cannot repair ipod touches and if its not insured with them they dont even want to know. i did ask for any authorised repairers but they dont repair the ipod tocuhes - so they told me.

How about this Linny?
1. Press and hold Sleep/Wake and Home until the iPhone resets.

2. When the Apple logo appears release Sleep/Wake. Do not release Home until you see the prompt to connect the iPhone/iPod Touch to iTunes.

You will then need to update the firmware, and proceed with restoring all of your applications and settings.

(1) Feedback:
You have to only let go of the sleep/power button, and wait while holding home. If that doesn’t work, then there are problems with the hardware.

thanks ill try that - think thats what i was doing wrong was holding both and letting both go together

hi linny, when you plug the ipod into the usb port does it show up in "my computer" as in Linny's Ipod for example ?

If it does could you right click on it and select "properties"

From there select tools

Under this tab you will see ERROR CHECKING and a box next to it saying CHECK NOW

Click this button and another small window will open with two options, only one of these options is automatically ticked, make sure both are ticked and click on start, this is a CHECK DISK tool that should fix any errors on the ipod which is essentialy a hard disk.

If this doesnt work then throw it away lol only kiddin :)

By the way the chkdsk test may take about half an hour on the ipod even though it is only 16 gigs so go have a cuppa :)

ive not done that i usually open itunes then plug it in but will have a go later ............due to snow i aint going no where today lol!

................ a cuppa lol the stress its giving me think i need a bottle lol!
