Iptv noob q+a

Kong

Newbie
Howdy all, as the title says I have some noob questions that I would appreciate your help with.
Will be purchasing mag254 box soon ready for the new season, I'll list the q's I have rather than type a novel.
1.Do I need to and if so which image to flash the box?
2.What options are there to view iptv, is it just xtream TV plugin, iv seen the term m3u used but not clued up on the details. More info would be appreciated.
3.For those vets here, what questions should a buyer be asking a seller? Ideally I'd like epg with bouquets that auto update as I have family spread all over I sort out, is this possible?
Many thanks

OK will answer the best I can from my experience with stb emu which emulates a mag box.
Firstly you seem to be getting confused by enigma2 boxes and mag boxes, you can use plugins / bouquets on enigma2 boxes. Dunno what the specific section names are called on mag boxes but pretty sure its not bouquets.
1. You don't need to flash a mag box, it comes already setup with the software ready installed, you may get software updates on a mag but have no idea about that personally as like I said above I have only played with stb emu
2. You don't use any plugin as the box is specificly designed for IPTV. Your supplier will give you a link to their portal that you put into the mag box, you then either give your supplier your Mac code from the mag or if you have access to there online setup you access that and enter the Mac code yourself.
3. I would be asking a supplier for a free trial. Some do a full trial for free, others only do a entertainment trial for free but also do a full 2 day pass for £2. Do a few trials so you can compare services between suppliers, some are worlds apart from others. Also don't just take the cheapest one, they are usually cheap for a reason ;)

Hope this gives you some idea. If you have anymore questions just ask, its what were here for :)

djgarf has explained it perfectly.

Best way I can describe it, is it's like getting your tv box from Sly. What you see is what you get. There's no way of jazzing up the look or way that it displays the channel lists. The only difference between suppliers is the way that they group their channels, Entertainment UK, Sports UK, USA, etc etc, and the order that they place their channels within each grouping. Of course which channels they supply.

Give your MAC for the box to your supplier, and in return you will be given an address to enter into the box. Enter the address into portal part of the settings. Reboot the portal, and away you go.

Youtube Mag Box Setup, and you will get the idea.

Not bad for only playing with stb emu a few times. Only reason I set it up on my TV was to access the catchup service my IPTV provider does which can only be accessed via a mag box or kodi. I quite liked the interface but still prefer my h2s as I love to tinker with it

Sorry...off topic really.

I am thinking of ditching the Mag in favour of your set up for the same reasons as you and wanting "a better look". I am getting the impression though that they might not be software stable at times, and on a reboot things sometimes disappear and it needs setting up again.

Mag Boxes are pretty indestructible software wise as it's all loaded on ROM I guess.

If you know how to setup your box properly and maintain it you shouldn't have any issues. I like to play and tweak my box to get the best out of it and have learnt almost everything from here. I would never want to go back to sky and have a box that I can't play around with now, its far too much fun changing things and learning from your mistakes.
