Is A DSiXL The Same As A DSi?

by this i mean do the same R4i cards work in them, or do you need a different card, or is there a card at all??
my niece just got one and was distraught to find her original R4 or DSTT wouldn't work.
any help appreciated.

R4i card should work just fine,get her a Acekard 2i instead

Interesting, my brother and sister both have a dsi on version 1.4, have read about the r4i cards but there doesnt seem to be a guide on the net. Wonder if the new XL has the same hardware installed.
