total new noob here,

I'm buying a cable zgemma h1 ready to use box, but the seller doesn't provide a memory stick with it. he installs epg on the internal flash memory.
he says he does all his cable boxes like this and not a single person has complained about the epg not working or the box stopped working because of this.

he said if I'm not going to be installing plug ins ? or add crossepg ? or add things then having epg on internal flash memory will be absolutely fine.
I will not be doing any of this by the way.

he can provide me with a usb memory stick at a cost If I really wanted one but said if in not doing the above then their is no need for it.

I just would like a box to work smoothly and an epg to work perfectly as epg is very important to me

I hope someone can shed some light on this for me

many thanks

(apologies if this is shows up again as I don't know if my first post saved)

I'd tell hie you want a 8gb memory stick mate, there about £3-4 on ebay i'd recommend a kingston data traveler se9 for the sake of the money your better off, have you not thort of setting a box up your self, plenty of back up images and lot of help from members on here to help you through

Hi Johnny

could you explain to me why I would ask for a usb - if I'm not going to do any of the things like plug ins , crossepg ect
I'm just trying to understand buddy I know its only like £3-£5 for a stick
but if their is no real need for it, then would I need 1 ?

what are the negatives having the epg on the flash memory if I am not going to add any plug ins , no cross epg ect

just trying to understand mate

thanks

You can set the box to take EPG internal But I would advise against it It will fill up space on the box which can be used for other things Like as been said you can pick up a 8 gb USB for £3 at Tesco and if the USB gets corrupted you can just delete it and download again easy enough

Tbh mate i use cross epg so i dont know whatother epg there is to use, and i would say that the negatives are that it will slow down running of the box, i use usb in all by boxes and there not the fastest at loading as it is, not that there slow but i think using a usb would help with that

well hes asking for £5 for memory stick and £5 for installing it onto memory stick !

so I thought no need to pay, extra £10 if epg will be fine on internal flash memory

Do you not want to record or pause or anything mate and as said it will definitely slow your box down i would deffintly get one

@ dillyp70
yes I will want to record pause live tv ect - but I will be plugging in a 1t external hdd via usb for this

@ johnny4791
I dd but after reading so many post I'm confused mate I'm not at the best of things when it comes to stuff like this,
(doing it yourself)

plus from going by prices it looks like hes only charging me £30 to set the box up , ive looked at priced for the boxes and potentially average prices for gift ! on flebay

and also the thing with flebay I'm not sure what the line quality is like and prices vary so much - and they all say the same thing" will last 12 months like the cheap ones and my lines are the best, will not glitch ect "
where as this guy hes assured me - and his reviews from his customers sound good (promising)

but yes I think one day id like to have ago myself but not ready to do it yet

Anyone can write a good review You never get one after few months down the line Anyone who says the line never glitches is definitely not telling the truth (They all do at some time ) Setting up the box will help you understand it it is not hard and all info can be found on the forum if stuck just ask

If your buying a 1TB HDD for recording then you could save the EPG to the HDD if needed but yes you can do it on the nand flash internally but its not recommended for some reason, EPG by the way gets stored in the RAM when the receiver is on so no matter where you download it too it actually goes to the RAM eventually.

Basically you have CrossEPG store to HDD or USB or Internal say then when you switch the receiver to standby at night the RAM clears and so does the EPG, as soon as you switch on the Script from CrossEPG automatically looks for where you store the EPG and then throws it into the RAM for reading so whatever device you use to store it that device only gets read when you either restart or reboot the box.

hope thats of some help

Hi Gus not been on for a while

thank you for your comments, i got the box for my dad from the seller and to be honest epg looks fine from the internal flash memory,
i wont be adding any plugins ect as he only needs it to view tv channels
