ISP IPTV

All,

My BT contract is up and having a look around at deals, appears VMedia are very competitive... anybody use VMedia for their IPTV? any issues with blocking/buffering?

BT has worked fine for me but they offering 50-70mbps @ 25.99 (24m) whereas media offering 208mbps @ 26 (18m).

thoughts appreciated!

Vm are fine for iptv just make sure web safe is turned off and ipv6 turned off in router settings.
As for blocks there is a high court ruling for blocking iptv but it's only happening to providers that mainly gives server urls out I'm with sly never had a block yet my mate is with vm and never been blocked.
VM like any other isp will throttle your speeds when they feel like it
VM are good, been with them for many years.
blocks will happen no matter who your isp is.
Not true at all I've been with sly for over 5yrs never been blocked for football yet

yeah, sounds as expected then.

BT gave me the "we don't traffic manage", read the small print which clearly stated they will manage speeds.. their tune changed to "we manage speeds less than other providers" ffs.

in normal circumstances, I wouldn't have hesitated,. but with the whole working from home etc, having broadband running is so crucial and the turnaround times to get activated are so long.

I've had VM for about 15/20 years I'd have no problem with Freezing or blackouts on iptv I'm on 350mbps and I get around 388mbps on a Speed test

Like mentioned isp can block but with the right provider for iptv ect work rounds are done so there is no blocks football

Looking to switch to VM. Does anyone know of any issues? If your using them are they any good? In general and for iptv.

Keep in mind the smaller isp that is not part of that high court rulling is not blocking iptv, only the big 6 isp that are blocking iptv .i am on virgin never had problem with them..i would not be touching any thing that deals with open reach as you are only limited to a certain amount of speed i think there top packagae is 80 down and 20 up, unless you live in an area were you can get FTTP speeds.

Correct we can only get 60 max

I've been with VM since before they where VM, NTL and Diamond Cable before that.I have left them and tried others but always come back to them. Apart from their slow to answer the phone customer support, I couldn't fault them

I am with VM I have got to say speeds are always consistent 208 meg.

I dont need a VPN but always use one and on wired connection reduces down to about 180 meg. On wireless down to about 100 meg.

Would the normal person notice any difference between 100 and 200 ?
Unless they download loads of stuff that is.
Surely streaming is more bandwidth heavy rather than speed intensive, so as long as you get reasonable DL speed it doesn't matter.

Yes. We would. At least

1 iptv connection permanently connected
2. Gaming on PS4 and xbox one
3 iPads and mobiles connected
4 other tv withmr tumble for little one
5 3 computers connected for kids school and Mine and Mrs work
6 And mobile phones that are connected.

Need quite a bit of bandwidth don't need to worry about downloading to much as seed box deals with that.

That's what I mean,
Bandwidth and speed aren't the same thing.
You need both, but surely after a certain point the speed becomes less relevant if you don't have the bandwidth to cope

They are seperate. However, if we had say 50 meg download speeds there is no way we could run all of our gadgets at the same time.

It all really depends what you use your internet for. If you just watch iptv and do a bit of browsing 20 meg speeds will do.

That is why traffic managment can be important with a decent router. Basicly if you have 200 meg download speeds and you connect up a games console which has a requirement of 70 meg to play on line. You have 130 meg left for other gadgets. You don't get 200 meg per gadget.

I'm fairly sure you do get the full speed per item
That's where the bandwidth comes in
It can only give you the full speed if you have enough bandwidth, that's when the speed drops, there isn't enough bandwidth to accommodate the speed to everything
