ISP IPTV

I have just tried this no other devices were connected.

Download speed on pc connected to network. 215 meg download speed.

Then started 4k film on sheild speed dropped to 140 meg on pc.

Then added xbox got son to play call of duty speed in pc dropped again to 90 meg.

So you haven't done as I suggested
A speed test on each device
Watching a movie will use more bandwidth than a speed test.
I'm giving up here, the hose pipe is a poor analogy, unless you use a smaller pipe each time , allowing each device smaller bandwidth
But, by using a same size pipe is allowing each device the full bandwidth, which is in turn slowing down the speed, which actually proves my point,
I'm really surprised that all the techy guys on here actually think bandwidth and speed are the same thing,
Here's what to do, get an empty drum that is 2 feet wide and 2 feet tall and put a hole in the bottom,
Measure the speed, put another hole in the bottom, the speed will be constant , another hole, still constant, as long as the holes are the same size the speed will remain constant at every hole,
It will slow slightly, but not massively.
Do the same with a 1 foot wide drum that is 2 feet tall, the first hole will be the same speed as the first drum, the more holes the slower each hole will flow more noticeably,
Narrower drum, less bandwidth,
Both drums have same height so same pressure, but less bandwidth will slow down each feed more noticeably.
This will be the same even with a constant top up of water into the drum before anyone says the smaller drums empties quicker thus lessening the pressure.
 
Would the normal person notice any difference between 100 and 200 ?
Unless they download loads of stuff that is.
Surely streaming is more bandwidth heavy rather than speed intensive, so as long as you get reasonable DL speed it doesn't matter.
If it helps I went from 350 to 100 in the last Month.

I notice no difference. Several Devices connected. Regularly using Plex watching Remux rips and 4K. Between 5-40GB Files and have zero issues. All direct play fine.

I tend to use Plex to determine if my connection is good rather than an actual speed test. Thing is you can watch a Movie thats a few hours long if it plays and maintains solid bitrate and direct plays that proves more than a 10 second Speed test imo.

It is you who is not getting it. If you wanted 200 meg to goto 5 devices you would need gigabit broadband it is really that simple.

The drum analogy is incorrect as you are assuming the drum is full of water, which is not how the router works (I would get worried if my router was full of water lol), the drum would need to be empty to start with, put a hole in the bottom and as you put water into the top of the drum, it willl come out of the bottom hole at about the same speed as the drum is being filled, assuming the whole is the right size, put more holes in the bottom, the amount and speed coming out of each hole will reduce, the total amount coming out will be the same as going in spread accross the holes, you can't have more coming out than is going in to start with. Increasing/decreasing the size of the holes in the bottom will effect the flow coming out of each hole.
 
They sent me a new router exact same and ain't a clue how to sort traffic management lol
most isp supplied routers will not offer traffic management, quality routers purchased usually have a "QOS" or similar feature where you can prioritise certain devices and set limits to the bandwidth hungry devices. So you could restrict Sons download speed (taking it longer) but would then not compromise rest of the house so much.

Its stupid mate I turned sync off for 2.4ghz and 5ghz just set something to download and speeds zapped

ha ha, thats how i find tech (due to my ignorance of the technicalities) I play with a setting and not get expected result but occasionally co-incidently makes an unexpected amendment / improvement to a feature I had given up on.
 
VM are good, been with them for many years.
blocks will happen no matter who your isp is.
I'm with Virgin have been since they took over telewest. I bought an additional router switch the virgin router to modem only use the 2nd router get no drop outs, lagging, buffering, freezing. It's the way forward a mate has done the same no going back at least you r getting value for money. Router bought is the Hauwei ws7200 3000mbps.

Pretty much same sort of setup. Have wifi mesh extenders connected by wps. To virgin hub. Then sons xboxone and PC hardwired from mesh extenders. No drops in speeds what's so ever.
