Jailbreak iPhone 4

I am new to forums and hope i'm not breaking any rules. I am hoping for some help. I want to jailbreak my iPhone 4. I have read that at the moment if you are running 4.2.1 the phone will become 'tethered'. Is this likely to change in the future or possible to roll back to 4.2. I don't want to have to connect to itunes to restart everytime.

Use redsnow 0.9.6rc9 for windows

There are many people lost data when they jailbreaking their ios devices, if you lost data like contacts, try iPhone data recovery.

if you backup to iCloud before doing anything then everything should be safe.
