The Spanish colonial-style property is described as the "jewel in the crown" of the luxurious neighbourhood of Brentwood.

The one-storey property, built in 1929, spreads over 23,000 square feet, according to David Offer Fine Homes estate agents.

Monroe lived in the house for only six months before her death.

The house has tall gates and is positioned on a secluded cul de sac.

It has a kidney-shaped swimming pool, four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a children's play house.

Monroe, 36, was found dead in a bedroom of the home by her psychoanalyst Ralph Greenson after he was called by the live-in housekeeper on August 5, 1962.

Monroe memorabilia is highly coveted, with even a burial spot near the star's last resting place being sold on the online auction website eBay in 2009 for £3m.
