Not come across this one before but a bit of reading reveals 3 main culprits.
Car battery
Brake light switch
Software update.
If you got access to a scanner get it plugged in and see if theres any fault codes stored

I have a cheap bluetooth one that some times picks up the "fault codes" i'm going out, will have a go in a bit, if not I can get it plugged in at a garage. thanks mate

The brake light switch should be located at the back of the pedal ok
Not sure if its a plunger type switch and sometimes they can get jammed or the contacts wear out.

more likely the state of charge (soc) of the battery, if they fail below a threshold for s\s it wont work even tho the battery is working as normal, leave it on charge over night and retest

Does brake light switch sound right as thinking clutch pedal switch as pressing that should start the car rather than brake to stop.

more likely a dsg this car anyways, so it would be the brake switch

no clutch peddle....?!? automatic ? foot on brake, off, release brake, throttle, start....
