Microsoft Office 2010 Starter Edition: Free version will replace Works

Microsoft have announced that they will be offering an ad-supported free version of Office 2010 Starter Edition on all new PC systems next year. The company have also stated that the move will replace their old ‘Works’ package.

As reported from iTProPortal,

Office 2010 Starter Edition will only come with Word 2010 and Excel 2010, meaning that PowerPoint 2010 and OneNote 2010 will be dropped from the package.

The software will come pre-installed on many new computers and Microsoft will give users the option to upgrade to the full version via activation cards.

Details are not known on what type of Ads Microsoft are planning to include with the free edition, but it’s unlikely to be pop-up type ones that would put many home users off.

More details over at iTProPortal.
