Motherboard gaming system

Hi
I have an Asus P9X79 BOARD and a Corsair 760T case which I have acquired. I think its socket 2011 as I am new to building systems.
My question is what processor will fit this , is it any good ,what are my options and is it worthy selling and getting something more up to date ?
