N-line Newbie Question

Hi

Took the plunge in November with a Zgemma 2S, installed Wooshbuild and got an N-line. Am very happy with the service and response times I'm getting from my supplier but there have been two days with downtime or poor quality issues.

My question is, is there any benefit to having a second N-line as a "backup" in case of issues with this one?

Thanks

Matt

Some people will have back up lines on a box.

but in my opinion just find a decent server and you will only need one line on the box.

Every server has bad days

It is possible to run more than one line at a time, I use OScam, it will request from all lines you have readers set up for and use the sever that responds first

The trouble with a backup is that even tho' (to you) they are separate servers (and they may have different response times) they both may be buying cache from the same place, so in the event the main cache server goes down both your servers will be useless.

you can have multiple n lines as a reader and use the load balancing setup to use the fastest server for ecm requests. Its needs a few config lines

in global settings of oscam.conf add this

lb_mode = 1
lb_save = 100
lb_savepath = /usr/local/stat
fallbacktimeout = 2600

then for each reader in oscam.server add this

lb_weight = 100

If I get two N lines from two different providers (in case one server goes down), and put them both in newcamdlist, will this do the same as above with OSCam in terms of switching to whichever replies first?

No works different it will start by trying the first line on your list then if no joy it will move on to the next but can take a little bit as it doesn't move on immediately

Just on the whole N Line or C Line thing, whats the difference?
Have a Zgemma H.2S on order and want to make sure I get the right line.

Would it be safe to say anyone offering a line on the above link from garyth would be decent?

Conorm69, have a good read over the opening post by Benni, I think. That should stand you in good stead when making your decision.

Fair enough, buyer beware......can the H.2s box take both C and N lines do you know?

Both running off a good server it seems the N line would be the better of the two? Noob questions I know, but hey ;)

Yes the h2s will clear with either C or N.

Also when asking for test line don't confuse Newcamd and Mgcamd if going for a N line as both are entered completely different

Is there any way of finding out where they are buying cache from?

And then there's THAT hosting company lol. Generally though a couple in OScam will serve you well for the small outlay.

Not really, no, not without asking.

And not all servers use cache from what I gather - though I'd wager the majority do.
